Spring is Here!
I think spring has finally come! It was in the 60s today and it was SO nice that I had the back door wide open. Samba was tethered on his lead and he was free to go in and out, but he chose to stay out too! The pepper seeds we planted two weeks ago never grew. I think the seed mix was too dry. I should've soaked it well before I planted like I did today. I planted yellow bell pepper, cilantro, parsley, basil, dill, chives, oregano, and a few other herbs that I can't remember at the moment. The forecast looks pretty good except for tomorrow night. It's going to go down to 34*F. :(

I WANT SPRING!!!
I am up way too early on a Saturday morning, while everyone else in the house is still sleeping, including the dog. Outside is way too cold also. I thought we were in the spring equinox? Where is it?!?! I'm ready! Heck, I even got grass seed down yesterday.

Rain...
It's currently raining. I guess it'll activate the corn gluten. No more weeds! YAY! Can't wait for lush growth from the extra nitrogen this stuff is going to give the plants that are established already!
Corn Gluten!
So...I finally got the corn gluten down where I wanted it. Hopefully this works since it is my first time using the stuff! The stuff is granular and I got it from Lowes. I also just tossed my Sevin a few days ago along with a few other "chemical" items. I figured I hadn't had to use them in so long I don't need them now! Especially if I am aiming at a sustainable yard. Wish me luck!
The Non-Gardener
This is my non-gardener....more like the garden destroyer! He likes to tromp on my ferns and pee on them because the feral cats either tease him or mark my ferns (ew!) so he has to try and chase them or mark over their markings. He likes to zoom around the yard, thus, ripping up the lawn with his nails digging into the soft (when wet! I have clay.) earth for traction. Other than that, he is pretty respectful of my other plants! No nibbling! He is the reason that I am going organic. I don't want to take the chance that he changes his mind and decides to eat anything!
Scented Geranium
Scented geranium. Got this as a freebie tonight at my master gardener meeting along with a big packet of pea seeds. This plant has a real strong fragrance....almost like citronella. I was told it was lemon something geranium. Not sure what it is really, but I liked the leaves. It reminded me of a fern. The scent, I was hoping, would repel bugs!

New Adventures
So this is my first garden blog. I'm hoping to add more to this as time goes on.
Started some hot pepper seeds a few days ago (week?), but am having a tough time getting the soil wet so that the seeds can germinate. I keep spraying them every day so hopefully it will get there! Still need to plant my herbs and tomatoes. The house is going to look like a jungle soon till our last frost date comes (Memorial Day weekend) so that I can move everything outside!
Tomorrow hopefully I can seed the lawn and apply corn gluten (pre-emergent weed controller) to the front yard, side alley (between my house and my neighbor's) and my little patch where my (hopefully) soon to be native orchids are going to flourish! I'll have to apply it to the lawn later.
The orchids are doing really well for me this last year. I have had something in bloom every month! The local orchid show put on by the society I belonged to also brought about some new orchids to my collection.
I'm hoping all my hardy ferns made it through the winter outdoors along with my garlic and lily bulbs.
I will see about putting up some pictures!
