A Break in the Rain

This little beauty bloomed for me for the first time today! It's been pretty tough withstanding the dog trampling it in order to  hunt rabbits!
My venture into hanging basket squash is yielding returns!
Bought a pack of four of these peppers labeled as Ghost Peppers, the second hottest in the world at the moment. This is my first pepper off of one of these plants so we'll see if they grow true! I have not had good track record buying plants from anyone else but pepper lovers.
The squash is taking over everything! Including the Ground Cherries which were the first that took over everything! You can barely see my Kale to the left there and there is actually another behind there!

I repotted all my new peppers today. Some were ready to be repotted, some weren't....but they all got repotted anyway since I was doing so! This will give them plenty of room to grow and possibly green up! I'm not sure why these look so pale whereas the others look nice and dark green! They all get treated the same!
Anticipation of a beautiful dark Dahlia! I think this is Black Jack, which is new to me this year. I can't wait! I wish they would all bloom at the same time so I could cut the flowers and still have some to enjoy outside!

I heard on the radio last week that out of 30 days in June, 21 of them were rainy! It was still that way carrying over into July, but today was a nice break in the weather! It was actually a tad hot, but I'll take it after all that rain! Lots of weeds growing in the garden. I just keep pulling! The tomatoes are getting huge and some are putting out fruit. The mosquitos are really bad this year. I just had the citronella candles going with bug spray on and was still getting bitten! I was hoping they had all died off in the cold rain! LOL Fat chance eh?

Stargazer Lily Bulbs

I had planted my Stargazer lilies in a rush when I first got them and did not think about how they would look eventually. So I finally got the chance to move them since their foliage has turned yellow. They are easy to snap off! I hope it doesn't hurt them, but they sure have grown! No wonder they were taller than I this year with tons of blooms! I did, however, forget to put some bone meal down when I replanted them. Oh well....I will top dress them later! Here's a few pictures:

The largest bulb...actually it had grown another bulbs and both of them were stuck together! Check it out...the bulb has its own fat roots and then all the tiny roots at the top (closer to my hand) must be what feeds the plant itself.

One of the other larger bulbs....also a multiple with a smaller one. The smaller one was grown next to a honeysuckle. Not sure if it made a difference, but it was definitely a smaller plant this year unlike the other two.

A look at where the stems snapped off when I dug them up. This is the largest one. You can see how big it is compared to my gloved hand! I don't think they were any bigger than a bulb of garlic when I first bought them! They sure as heck weren't yellow either! Not sure what made them that color...

All Gone...!

Alas....all the beautiful Stargazer Lillies are done blooming! They were so beautiful and fragrant, but they sure didn't last long enough! It'll give me something to look forward to next year along with those red Asiatic lillies! The back of the patch there is looking a bit empty now that I have cut off half their stalks to make sure they are not trying to put any energy into making seeds.

The home grown zuchinis are a bit tough skinned though as we found out the other night when we decided to cook two of them.

Other than that...not much going on. It's a bit dry. We could use a good downpour so that I don't have to pull out the hose. I haven't been able to pull the hose out due to the fact that bf is parking his car right in front of the spigot!

I just realized I could put labels on my posts....I wonder who reads my blog? Apparently quite a few of you since my visitor counter says so! :) I hope ya'll enjoy my posts as much as I do writing about them!

More Blooms

This is Phal. John Ewing. It was supposed to bloom last year and had TWO spikes, but I threw it outside with the other Phals in the fall and blasted the two spikes! :( So this year, to make up for it....it has given me one single spike. This has been a long awaited bloom since this is a SCENTED Phalaenopsis! Oh it is heavenly! Pretty to boot too!

Spider Lily I believe what this is called. Quite pretty, small flowers though. Apparently the bee in the flower the morning I took this picture agreed since it was drunk with sleep! I thought it was dead! It must really appreciate the food :D

Close up shot of the pretty small flowers. They are about 1" across.

Blooms!

I have six, count that S-I-X, orchids in spike under my light stand! YIPEE!!!! Some I have not seen some of them bloom since I bought it (years!) and some have never bloomed at all (few years or just bought) so it will be exciting to see what they look like possibly!

Outdoors, my stargazer lillies are about to bloom so I am excited to see what those actually look like! I hope I got the white ones because I really can't remember LOL

Just found out two nights ago bf put down weed and feed in the backyard....GRRRR....now I can't eat my garlic! :( :( :( He has been reminded that he is ***FORBIDDEN*** to use any pesticides/herbicides in our yard because not only is my garlic affected, but my worms and the dog since he didn't tell me he put it down. You are supposed to wait something like two days before letting pets or children onto lawns when you put down fertilizer, pesticides, or herbicides (read your labels!). Well...unbeknownst to me my dog was still being let out on that same grass and EATING on it! Ugh...
